Introduction
Event logs are generated by windows. They can be monitored and actions taken to fix the problem, Alert a Contact or perform other tasks based on the event being monitored.
Event Information
Enter some information to narrow the event that is being monitored. Choose a LogFile, Type, Source and ID then click Next to continue or Back to change the monitor type.
- LogFile - Select a section of the event logs to monitor. The sections are listed below.
- Application
- Internet Explorer
- Security
- System
- Windows CE
- Windows PowerShell
- EventType - Select an event type from the dropdown list.
- Error
- Warning
- Information
- Security Audit Success
- Security Audit Failure
- Event Source - Enter the source of the event to monitor.
- Example: Print, .NET Runtime. etc...
- Event ID - Enter the ID. See http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp
- Event Message - Enter a search string, if any, to find within the event log.
- Monitor Locally - Check this box to have the monitor run on the computer who's logs are being monitored. This will increase the response time but will also add load to that computer.
Where to run the Monitor
Select where this monitor should run from. They can be set up on Groups, Clients, Locations or Single Computers. Click next to continue or Back to make changes.
- Note: Some Monitors, such as Network Monitors, Require a Single Computer.
- Group - Runs the monitor on all computers in the specified Group.
- Client - Runs the monitor on all computers that belong to the specified Client.
- Location - Runs the monitor on all the computers at the specified Location.
- Computer - Runs the monitor on a Single Computer.
Frequency to Run
Select a frequency for this monitor. This is how long to wait before the monitor checks again. This can be anthing from a second to months. Click Next to continue or Back to make changes.
- Frequency - Select an option from the dropdown list.
- Note: Custom provides an input box for an interval in seconds.
- Note: Daily provides checkboxes to limit the days in which to run.
Alert Information
Select a Contact who will recieve the alert message and how often they will recieve it for the selected alert actions. Click Next to continue or Back to make changes.
- Alert Contact - Select a contact from the dropdown list.
- Note: This dropdown list is populated from all the contacts in the LabTech System.

Alert Message
After the Alert Information is filled out, A message can be defined to send to the specified contact, script or log. There is a generic Alert Message inputed by default. Modify or replace the existing Alert Message and Click Next to continue or Back to make changes.

Finish the New Monitor
Finally the monitor is ready to be installed. Enter a friendly name for the monitor and review the monitor information. Click Finish to install or Back to make changes.
- Monitor Name - Enter a friendly name for this Monitor.
