Introduction
Network Monitors are used to check if connections are active, certain software is installed on a machine or if the computer itself is online. They can be used for any network related test of information.
Protocol
Select the type of protocol to use for the Network Monitor and Click Next to continue.
- Ping - Checks for a response from a network device such as a computer, printer, router, etc...
- TCP - Sends data via TCP to the specified device and tests the result against a regular expression or specific value.
- Note: HTTP, POP and SMTP use TCP protocol.
- UDP - Sends data via UDP to the specified device and tests the result against a regular expression or specific value.
- Note: Radius and DNS use UDP protocol.
- SNMP - Checks for an Object ID based on a specified Community String.
Host to Check
Enter a valid Hostname or IP Address to Test and Click Next to continue or Back to select a different Protocol.
- Hostname or IP Address - Enter a valid Hostname or IP Address.
- Note: This will resolve when you Click Next to ensure that the host is a valid.
TCP and UDP Configuration
The TCP and UDP options will prompt for a Port and Data to send to the Remote Device. Click Next to Continue or Back to change the host.
- Port - Type a port number or select one from the dropdown list to connect to.
- Example: HTTP uses TCP protocol on Port 80.
- Text to Send - This can be anything from random characters to a specific command that will return data.
- Example: TCP protocol, Hostname www.google.com, Port 80, Text to Send GET / HTTP/1.1\nHost: www.google.com\n\n
SNMP Object ID
Enter the community string to search through for the specified object ID. Click Next to continue or Back to change the host.
- Note: Some knowledge of SNMP is required.
- Community String - Specify the Community String in which to search through.
- OID - The Object ID to search for.
- Note: A Link is provided to lookup Object IDs - http://www.mibsearch.com/
How to Compare
Select a comparison method and the text to compare with the result. Click Next to continue or Back to make changes.
- How to Compare - Select a comparison option from the dropdown list.
- Note: Equals will match the first part of the result string.
- Text to Compare with - This can be anything from a single character to a regular expression.
Where to run the Monitor
Select where this monitor should run from. They can be set up on Groups, Clients, Locations or Single Computers. Click next to continue or Back to make changes.
- Note: Some Monitors, such as Network Monitors, Require a Single Computer.
- Group - Runs the monitor on all computers in the specified Group.
- Client - Runs the monitor on all computers that belong to the specified Client.
- Location - Runs the monitor on all the computers at the specified Location.
- Computer - Runs the monitor on a Single Computer.
Frequency to Run
Select a frequency for this monitor. This is how long to wait before the monitor checks again. This can be anthing from a second to months. Click Next to continue or Back to make changes.
- Frequency - Select an option from the dropdown list.
- Note: Custom provides an input box for an interval in seconds.
- Note: Daily provides checkboxes to limit the days in which to run.
Alert Information
Select a Contact who will recieve the alert message and how often they will recieve it for the selected alert actions. Click Next to continue or Back to make changes.
- Alert Contact - Select a contact from the dropdown list.
- Note: This dropdown list is populated from all the contacts in the LabTech System.

Alert Message
After the Alert Information is filled out, A message can be defined to send to the specified contact, script or log. There is a generic Alert Message inputed by default. Modify or replace the existing Alert Message and Click Next to continue or Back to make changes.
- Note: LabTech Replacement Syntax can be used here.
Finish the New Monitor
Finally the monitor is ready to be installed. Enter a friendly name for the monitor and review the monitor information. Click Finish to install or Back to make changes.
- Monitor Name - Enter a friendly name for this Monitor.
