General Settings

The Control Center has some options that are available to the user. These option are saved in the current users registry on the local computer. Since these are stored in the registry they are not available when the user is on a different computer.

The Options window is accessed from Labtech Control Center by selecting Options

General Tab

  • Note: When these options are changed they are saved automatically.
  • Show Disabled Clients
    • This option lets the user see Disabled clients in the Control Center. Normally a Client that is disabled is hidden from the tree. Also when a client is opened the Disable Check box will be visible and if the user has edit permission to clients the client can be Disabled.
  • Remember Extra Field Groups
    • This option will store the expanded state of Extra data field on the computer, client, location and other windows. Otherwise the state will be determined by the settings for each extra data field.
  • Show Headers for Ungrouped Extra Fields
    • This option will turn on the headers for groups of items that only have one item.
  • Local Redirector
    • This option will run a redirection server on the control center computer, and tell the remote to connect directly to it, skipping the redirection server. This option is only enabled and shown when a UPNPRouter is detected and the LTClient.exe.config file has the value UPNPDisabled set to False.
  • Local LabVNC
    • This will connect VNC directly to the Local IP but will start the Internal VNC Process. This option requires the control center to be run on the same network as the remote pc. This is good for remote techs at the client site.
  • Refresh the Tree every 30secs.
    • This will update the trees computers and change their online status and icons. It will also add new computers to the list as they come in. This in not a drain on resources and works quite well when enabled.
  • Refresh offline/Outdated
    • This will turn on the auto refresh in the dashboards offline and outdated computer tabs.
  • Display SQL Queries for Development and Debugging.
    • This will bring up a window that will show you each query the control center executes. Use this to help create expansions, scripts and reports to show how labtech selects the data to display.
  • Submit Bug Reports Automattically
    • This will send any hidden stop errors to the www.LabTechSoft.com when they occur. You will not be interrupted when this happens. Please keep this enabled to make this product more stable.

MDI Tab

  • The MDI Tab enables you to select the windows which open outside the Main Window of the Control Center

VNC Tab

  • The VNC Tab allows you to set your defaults for the VNC Options. You can change the VNC protocol and other settings on this tab

VNC Settings

VNC settings are stored per computer and are not carried from computer to computer. This way you can have settings for a slow link on a labtop and a much faster settings on the desktop at the office.

Shared Connection
This will not disconnect a previous VNC session but join it and the 2 connections will share the desktop.

AutoScale
The autoscale option will make the entire desktop show in the VNC window no matter what size the window is. This option is not 100% and can cause the VNC to crash the connection.

No Toolbar
Hides the Toolbar on the Technicians side of the VNC Connection.

Swap Mouse
Swaps the mouse buttons for you lefties out there.

No Status
Hides the VNC Status Icon on the Remotes desktop. This option should be enabled to hide VNC from the remote.

Color Depth
This helps set the speed of the VNC connection and the amount of bandwidth consumed durring the connection. Set it to 64 for the best looking and fastest connection. 256 color mode looks a bit better but uses 2x the bandwidth and 4 color looks bad but is very fast on updating.

Encoding
The fastest encoding of them all is tight, it uses the least amount of bandwidth and has a fairly good respose time. Some people have found ZRLE and ZLIB to be very fast when there is plenty of bandwidth available.
